Recently, our co-founder, Nicole Zelyez was featured in Bustle’s article on The Four Best Garden Trowels.

If you’re in the market for a new garden trowel this year, here is what you should look for and think about before you purchase.

What are the most common uses for a garden trowel? The garden trowel is a must-have! This highly versatile tool can be used for digging, transplanting seedlings, weed removal, and potting.

What materials are best for a trowel and why?  Hands down the best material for a garden trowel is stainless steel. It's lightweight but strong enough to work in hard ground. Breaking a trowel in the middle of a project is a big letdown.

Are there any other features shoppers should look for in a garden trowel? At Larkspur Landscaping we look for trowels that are made out of a single material with ergonomic handles. This is important if you spend a lot of time in your garden, you want your trowel's handle to be comfortable to hold. Another often overlooked, but important to mention factor, colorful towels are best. Locating a brown trowel in a garden can be challenging.

Remember to take care of your tools! At the very least, brush off the dirt after each use. Extra time? Give it a wipe down!

Something to note, unfortunately, trowels can have toxic chemicals, things like lead and BPA. Always check the labels to avoid introducing chemicals into your garden, especially if organic gardening is important to you.
